Our Story

Artemisia dracunculus. The Dragon’s Wormwood. Cousin of the wormwood used to make absinthe. A herb that is shrouded in mystery.

Just kidding. Dragon’s Wormwood is just Tarragon – an aromatic herb whose anise-like flavor pairs perfectly with everything from chicken to gin. Every bottle of Lindwurm Drachenschnaps has been fortified with the addition of this beautiful botanical.

That’s why we named our schnaps brand Lindwurm, after the mythological serpent dragons. Lindwurm truly is the Dragon’s Schnaps!

Lindwurm is the creation of Avery Glasser, co-founder of the American bitters company Bittermens. After moving to Munich, he had a crazy idea to start working on a new line of schnaps and liqueurs based on flavours that locals have enjoyed since they were kids, but transforming them into complex spirits using natural herbs, spices and traditional methods of liqueur manufacturing, creating a complex and definitively modern flavor profile that adults of all ages can enjoy.

Avery turned to Florent Beuchet, long time friend and creator of Compagnie des Indes Rum. Avery had worked with Florent on the production of his Nordic bitter spirit brand Dala Spirits years ago and asked if he knew of anyone willing to take on a small, handmade product like this. It ends up that Florent had a facility perfectly suited to make this sort of traditional macerated spirit – and so the first batch was born using locally sourced malted barley distillate from the French Jura.
